Founded in 1977, Operation Green Team was originally known as the Huntsville Madison County Clean Community Office. It is a city-funded organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. Operation Green Team endeavors to make Huntsville a role model for the state, region and Nation in terms of landscape beauty, cleanliness and environmental consciousness.
The Hays Nature Preserve has miles of trails that wind through bottomlands, swamps, and sloughs, suitable for hiking or mountain biking. Horses are also welcome on the northern trails. Come explore our hardwood forest, walk our fields, and discover our wetlands. Wildlife abounds with deer, rabbits, raccoons, and resident and migratory birds, in fact, this natural area is an important part of the North Alabama Birding Trail. Join us in our efforts to preserve this valuable asset for our children and learn something along the way.
Donations to further educational and preservation programs at Hays Nature Preserve may be made to Operation Green Team. Please contact our office for more information on ways you can contribute to Hays Nature Preserve programs.
